Edie Carey, Kevin Elliott, and Eleni Moraites. Folk/Acoustic. 8pm.
Armed with her graceful, soaring voice, and her undeniable skill for
carving out everyday images in almost startling detail, Edie Carey grabs
hold of her audiences and doesn't let go until she steps off the stage.
While her songs are what first draw listeners in, it's what she says in
between them that keeps them there. As much a part of her show as the
music itself, Carey's wry and often self-mocking humor, coupled with her
ability to tell a great story, leave her fans feeling as though they have
just spent an evening with a very close friend.

Groop. Jam. 8pm.

Saturday, August 24, 2002
Sagacity, Missing the Point, Afflication. Pop-Punk. 7pm.

Monday, August 26, 2002
Black Cat Music, The Beauty Shop, The Invisible, Klipspringer. Dark Indie
Rock. 8pm.

This is what happens when punk rock grows up. "hands in the estuary, torso
in the lake" is Black Cat Musics third release to date. Their unique brand
of rock and roll has been thrilling audiences and listeners since the
summer of 1998, and this album reinforces that fervent underground
popularity. The group has extended the reach of their hard driving,
nervous breakdown rock and roll, and at the same time developed their own
pained blues. This is not a band whose influences are easily traced. Time
spent playing in punk bands certainly leaves its mark. But as is usually
the case when it comes to Black Cat Music, nothing is what it seems. This
is a dark album, but never nihilistic. It is rock, it is blues, it is
frantic, it is a portrait of the darker side of modern life.

Rory Miller and Vicki Salz w/ Kate Hathaway. Folk/Acoustic. 8pm.

Saturday, August 31, 2002
Alix Olson, and TBA. Slam Poetry. 8pm.

Alix brought me to my feet. She is an ingenious poet, a brilliant
performer, a funny person and serious thinker. She is, quite simply,
extraordinary
Howard Zinn, Author of "The People's History of the United States"

Alix Olson is the living embodiment of a wake-up call for this
generation... powerful, poignant, fearless, and unflinching in its
outspokenness, a much needed dose of medicine for the soul
Pamela Means, Singer/songwriter
