Thurs March 28th @ Independent Media Center
218 West Main Street in Urbana IL
Doors at 7pm, Show at 8pm
==========================
AM/FM (Polyvinyl Records)
AM/FM is an apt title for a band whose sound could at times fit in nicely on
either radio dial. The group's mellow pop-rock reminds The Octopus' Doug
Hoepker of Badly Drawn Boy, Portastatic and The Coctails and easily fits
under the umbrella "bands influenced by the Beach Boys." One-half of AM/FM
is 26-year-old Brian Sokel (Franklin), who like many of his indie-rocker
contemporaries is mellowing out in his mid-20s. Joining Sokel on record is
Michael Parsell (Frail, Blue Monday) and the group's sound is fleshed out
live by members of Aspera Ad Astra, Franklin and Ink & Dagger.

Re:Rec (x-Bargos Steeler)
Re:Rec combines a noticeable appreciation for the power of dynamics with
razor-sharp, angular guitars. The group improves upon the work of past
projects (Bargos Steeler, Beowulf Scantron Test) by extending beyond the
shadow of great bands like Polvo and Don Caballero into a bright light all
their own. Coupling the guitar work of Dheeru Pennepali and Tim Iseler with
a solid, snappy rhythm section, Re:Rec is charting new territory for rock
music, expanding from Chicago outward.

Some Velvet Morning
Local rock threesome Some Velvet Morning opens with a very strange blend of
alt-country, psychadelic stoner rock and artsy noise. I saw them at the
High Dive last week and didn't quite know what to make of them, each song
stradling the line between brilliant indie rock and brilliant indie rock
parody. Entertaining from the outset to the end, I had a grin from ear to
ear the entire time. If you bring your own beverage, be sure you're feeling
the effects of it early on, because it will make these guys that much more
fun.
