Hey y'all. How about that Luna show, huh? Good times, great oldies, new
hits. Ward deserves a continued pat on the back for bringing the
entertainment to town. We're all going to have to buck up for another good
time this week though because I'm doing my last IMC show on Friday, as I'm
moving away later this summer, and hence this is most likely the last email
you'll rec'v from me. And what a great show it'll be. Everyone should show
up around 8pm and, in the interest of economy, should come in pairs - entry
fee is $6 for singles and $10 for deuces - and if you're of the legal age
(American, not Canadian) you can bring your own beverage. Please be sure to
recycle in the bins provided.

Friday, May 31st - 8pm, $6/$10, All Ages, BYOB if 21+
The Naysayer, Beauty Shop, Angie Heaton, Cynthia Nelson (solo set)

-- THE NAYSAYER --
The Naysayer is a recording collaboration between the trio of Tara Jane
O'Neil, Cynthia Nelson and Anna Padgett, three women who hold an impressive
collective resume, with formal connections to Rodan, Retsin and Ruby Falls.
The trio have released two albums for Carrot Top records, and Nelson (who
will be opening the show with a solo set that you don't want to miss) has
also established herself as a writer with three books published by Soft
Skull Press throughout the 1990s.

-- THE BEAUTY SHOP --
When the Allmusic guide refers to Champaign's own Beauty Shop as performing
"dark Americana dirges with wicked deadpan drawls," they couldn't be more
dead-on. Local alt-country-punk sensation John Hoeffleur, along with
longtime Beauty Shopper Ariane Peralta have picked up a new drummer and are
playing out again. The resurfacing should come as no surprise to those with
an ear to the ground, as the Beauty Shop buzz recently returned with the
announcement that the band's debut "Yr Money or Yr Life" will have a U.K.
release on the venerable Glasgow-based Spit & Polish imprint (which you
can't mention without a nod to the label's founder, Francis Macdonald of the
legendary Teenage Fanclub), who repeatedly describe the Beauty Shop as
"brilliant" and "simply devine".

-- ANGIE HEATON --
"Indie rocker Angie Heaton first surfaced in the short-lived Urbana,
Illinois-based trio Corndolly; in the wake of the release of the group's
posthumously issued 1995 eponymous debut LP, she signed on with Liquorette,
appearing on their collection While You Work, I Sleep before finally going
solo with 1996's Calamities and Restitution. Heaton's sophomore effort,
Sparkle, followed in 1998." That's the quote straight outta the All Music
Guide, but most of us probably know Angie better as the lovable Parasolian
who rocks around town, as last seen with Mecca Normal and Songs:Ohia.

Hope to see you all there!
