(Added new event)
The IMC welcomes back everyone from the winter holidays, and has a great
schedule of upcoming events and shows for this month and next:

*Sunday, January 11: 2-5pm* - *Oddmusic Convergence - Instrument Building &
Open Mic*

Oddmusic is making music with odd musical instruments: from merely unusual
to one-of-a-kind, newly invented and experimental, electronic and junkyard.
This Convergence is a show-and-tell of sorts for local players, makers, and
appreciators of odd musical instruments.
Tentative schedule:
2-3 p.m. -- open instrument building workshop. bring raw materials to make
something, or use something from a variety of scrounged and recycled bits
and pieces provided.
3-4 p.m. -- workshops & demonstrations.
4-5 p.m. oddmusic onstage. This will include solo performances on weird
instruments, as well as a large ensemble structured jam. Bring your
digeridoos and your bagpipes and your Hawaiian guitars and we'll make an
ensemble the likes of which the world has never seen. If interested in
presenting or performing, please contact jacob at udderbot at gmail dot com.

*Friday, January 16: 7:30-9pm - **Improvised Music Concert Featuring
Percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani* (Sponsored by WEFT)

Internationally recognized improvisational percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani
will perform solo and in collaboration with local musicians on Friday,
January 16th, 7:30 pm, at the Independent Media Center, 202 South Broadway,
Urbana. A key player in today's worldwide creative music community, Nakatani
takes a dynamic approach to "orchestral drumset," focusing on the moving of
sound, the silences in between, and the conversation in collaboration. Local
musicians Jay Eychaner (synthesizer) and Nick Rudd (electric guitar) will be
Urbana–Champaign's featured guest performers. Eychaner and Rudd are members,
along with percussionist Jason Finkelman, of Ferrocene 3, an ambient, avant
world trio.

*Tuesday, January 20: 7-10pm - Inauguration Party

*How many of you are excited about this historic election or have said over
the last few years, "I'm going to celebrate when these clowns are out of
here!"? That's right - a lot of you. Are you going to stay true to your
word(s)? There will be an informal, potluck style get-together at the IMC
on the evening of the Inauguration to watch footage, talk, and meet with
other locals who share similar media and activist interests.

*Saturday, January 24: 8pm - David Lippman Counter-Intelligence Cabaret
Comedy Theatre*

Singing CIA Agent George Shrub and satirical songster Dave Lippman bring the
Counter-Intelligence Cabaret to the Independent Media Center in Urbana on
Saturday January 24th, at 8 pm. Tickets will be $12 at the door.

Get ready for high-end pop parodies and some very wise cracks. The veteran
satirical songster is fired up about sweatshops, S.U.V.s, and wars to defend
sweatshops and S.U.V.s. This show has delighted and terrified audiences
throughout the Free World, and in some pretty cheap places as well.
Attendance is optional but strongly suggested. Lippman's most recent CD is I
Hate Wal-Mart, and Shrub and Lippman together released Live in Manhattan
last year.

Dave Lippman has toured from San Francisco to Birmingham, England, from
Australia to Germany to Central America. Current victims of his parody
include the faith-based missile shield, Global Warnings, Sport Futility
Vehicles, and of course, Wal-Mart.

Utah Phillips says of Lippman, "God that man can talk! What a great writer!"
"Viciously funny," says the Guardian. "Lippman is a national treasure," said
the L.A. Herald-Examiner.

Lippman has been performing his brand of twisted musical comedy for over 25
years. Some of his material is based on his visits to war zones in Central
America and the Palestinian territories. Lippman's recent travels in
Venezuela are highlighted in a multi-media piece.

Visit http://davelippman.com for audio and video samples of the show.

Contact Larry Keller at 359-2887, or Ed Hawkes at 493-4654 if you have any
questions, or need flyers to pass out.
