I think a lot of people share your humble opinion.

I find the introduction of these combo displays and media hubs a little
disturbing. I think all the old arguments against combo computers and
monitors or TVs and VCRs are applicable here.

On the other hand, I just came from another UC2B strategizing...
workshop.. something.. and we had a little discussion about these kinds
of devices. For geeks it's a little shocking to hear that anyone might
find the idea of hooking yet another box up to your TV complicated. It's
an input, you, the user, handle whatever services or media necessary to
use that input. Apparently a lot of folks unfamiliar with technology
find set top boxes such as XBoxes or, presumably, Boxee boxes, Rokus,
etc, confusing.

I give most people more credit. I think 30 years or so of VCRs, cable
boxes and DVD players is plenty for most people - even technically
disinclined people - to understand what a TV, cable box, and Blu Ray
player are.

All the same, there seems to be consensus among UC2B folk that things
like this Samsung platform will only help sell municipal broadband to
underserved communities.
