Space API[1].
There's already a number of spaces using this api and thus Android
apps[2] and webpages[3][4] already accessing this information.

Again, I don't know the details, but it seems to me that the odds are
good that Space API is what Hive13 uses for their "Space Status" app.
On the hardware side, I think it is an Arduino with Ethernet port
Internet *Appliance* which senses the state of the "Open"/"Closed" switch
in the physical space.

If you think that is cool, I invite Freeside to join the Space API[1].
