 *GirlZone Reunion Weekend Events*
*August 1 & 2, 2015*
After more than 10 years years away, GirlZone has returned for ONE WEEKEND
ONLY this summer to offer fun, challenging, and affirming hands-on
workshops for local girls and young women! Join us at GirlZone Reunion
Weekend workshops as we have a great time exploring and celebrating our
many abilities and interests!

All GirlZone Reunion Weekend workshops are open to local girls and young
women, and are led by highly talented local female facilitators trained to
create positive, exciting, welcoming learning environments. Many Reunion
Weekend facilitators attended GirlZone workshops when they were young. Now,
they are leading the workshops, and sharing their skills and enthusiasm
with a new generation of GirlZone girls!

Workshops are each offered to the public for a $5-15 sliding scale fee
(past volunteers and participants come for free!), with very limited
enrollment through July 29 to ensure high teacher:student ratios key to
meaningful, positive experiences for all learners. All reunion events are
held at the Urbana-Champaign IMC, a co-sponsor of this event. Visit the
Workshop Registration page
<https://sites.google.com/site/girlzonereunion/advice-column> to sign up,
and share our exciting schedule
<https://sites.google.com/site/girlzonereunion/important-events> with
others, please. We are here for one final week, and available spaces will
fill up fast!

Also, please come to our all-ages show featuring fabulous female musicians,
and to the wonderful GirlZone Reunion Weekend free panels for teens &
adults on Sunday, August 2. Both are open to the public. More information

What? Females have “issues”? Well, sure we do! And many of them stem from
real stereotypes, ideologies, norms, and inequities that those who care
about us can (and should!) address to make our lives less difficult.
Focusing upon race, technology, age, sexuality, culture, and other critical
areas, this panel will draw upon current research and engaged community
work to identify and challenge common beliefs that stand in the way of
females in our lives, and in our communities. being known and really
supported. Topics and panelists:

- *Being an Ally* (Margareth Etienne, Professor of Law)
- *Black Gurls Matter* (Imani Bazzell, Director of SisterNet)
- *Sex Education in Champaign-Urbana: Past, Present and Future* (Jamie L.
Hines, Educator and Performer)
- *Aging: A Lifetime of Experiences and Societal Expectations *(Victoria
[Vic] Christensen, MSW, LCSW)
- *The Plight of a Black Superwoman: The Church & Microagressions at
Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs) *(Tanisha King-Taylor, MSW,
Doctoral Student, Education Policy Organization & Leadership)
- *“Girls Gone Wild Addicted to Interaction”?: Myths that Harm Social
Media-Using Girls* (Aimee Rickman, PhD, Assistant Professor, GirlZone
Co-Founder/Director)
