Hi everyone,

An idea came up in the IMC news group today that in order to facilitate
building the network and enhancing collaboration among IMCs in our region
here that we should... throw a party and invite all the IMCs in the
midwest.

We would :
-discuss creating a collaborative regional news reporting network
-talk about leveraging our collective resources to create a regional News
Hour
-get to know each other!
-talk about what shared challenges we face in developing as organizations
and as a network

What would happen:
-workshops
-roundtable discussions
-shared meals
-dancing
-action

What we need to make it happen : (email to the me or the news group!)
-your contacts at other IMCs
-possible dates (late august was suggested, possibly combine with
membership meeting)
-your ideas and feedback

What will happen next:
-I'll collect feedback from UCIMC folks
-News group folks will send out an email to all the imcs we can find in
the midwest with the idea to see if there is interest...
-go from there!!

-Molly

I think the idea of a regional conference is a good one. It might be
good to consider having one of these two approaches for a focus:

1) A regional, in the sense of getting together with other downstate
Illinois (and maybe/if Terre Haute,IN?) wannabe IMCs with a focus on
collaborating with their start-up. Our recent experience starting an IMC
in a small, Midwestern city might be more relevant to them than trying
to include all the already-existing regional IMCs, which are mostly in
major cities. The idea of a regional news operation could still be an
important part of this. This approach would be much easier to pull
together (esp. by August) and put on for us than the following approach.

2) A regional that would include ALL regional IMCs, big, little, veteran
or newby. Still a good idea, but maybe a longer term project, simply
because of more groups being involved, a greater need for facilities to
accomodate what may be a much larger crowd (if there is good attendance)
and would require more coordination of an agenda and workshops between
everyone involved. Maybe this is something that might better be a result
of proposal #1?

just catching up on IMC emails from the last week or so...

I saw Molly's note about having a regional IMC party.

I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that there is an email list
on lists.groogroo.com called "imc-midwest-regional" that was set up
specifically for coordinating this kind of thing:

http://lists.groogroo.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/imc-midwest-regional

A guy from Chicago IMC named Stephen P Konieczka (spkonieczka at
juno.com) is very interested in helping to organize a regional meeting
like this. I talked to him over IRC about it several months ago.

The imc-midwest-regional list already has a lot of representatives
from regional IMCs signed up to it so that is a good place to have
discussion on this.
