Here's a headline that could be for tonight's IMC Radio News, and/or
followed up on for the Labor Hour--the original source email from
defenestrator follows.=20

Activists in Philadelphia announced plans on Sunday to shut down the
Westlakes Office Complex where janitors were fired for trying to form a
union. Local 36 has been working for past few years to organize
thousands of janitors who working each day cleaning office buildings
throughout Philadelphia suburbs. Suburban janitors typically work part
time, receive wages barely above the minimum, and have few or no benefits
and no job security. Most janitors working in office buildings here in the
city are unionized--they receive much higher wages, full family medical
insurance and other benefits, sick days; they typically have full time
hours; and they have access to grievance procedures that help them protect
themselves from harassment and unfair treatment.

FIGHT FOR JANITORS MONDAY

Come support suburban office cleaners who were fired
for trying to form a union. Picketers are needed
Monday to SHUT DOWN the Westlakes Office Complex where
janitors have been trying to organize themselves.

Vans will be leaving Philadelphia in three shifts:

6:30 AM 15th and Market Streets (by the Clothespin)
MOST CRITICAL SHIFT--STOP INCOMING EXECUTIVES

10:30 AM SEIU Office, 42 S. 15th Street (by
Chestnut), 11th floor

2:00 PM SEIU Office

All shifts will leave on time, and it will be possible
to return to Center City with the next shift.

Picketers will get to meet workers involved with the
suburban organizing campaign and help them defend
their right to organize. For more information, call
SEIU organizer Clauvice at 267-784-6356 or email
wbeckler at yahoo.com. Picketers are encouraged to dress
conservatively and to come angry.

hoping to shut down the complex this Monday.
