Hi everyone,

I've just learned that tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Mellon Administrative
Building, Deloris Henry will be facing reassignment hearings (to remove
and reassign her from her job). For those who may remember, this was
attempted once before, but enough people found out about it and were able
to stop the process. It is quite likely that if we do not show up
tonight, Deloris will be reassigned. This action will make it much easier
for the school district to continue to ignore racial equity issues.

BACKGROUND:

Deloris has been one of the strongest proponents for addressing racial
inequities in the Champaign Public Schools. She was (until the new
superintendant came aboard) the sole African American in the district
administration, and worked with the School Climate Research Team to get
the racial climate survey administered. Now the new superintendant is
looking to reassign her. When most of the rest of the administration was
ducking the racial inequities issue, Deloris kept the issue on the front
burner -- she was able to do this because of her position in the school
district. By reassigning her, the school district is continuing its
attempt to marginalize this issue.

Please attend tonight's school board hearings at the Mellon Administration
building at 6:30 p.m. (on the corner of New and John streets) in
Champaign. Please help spread the word about this important meeting.
