[Imc-newsroom] Final Ballot Access Hearing 8:30am Tuesday

Green Party Candidates for Champaign County Board and the Socialist
Equality Party candidate for State Representative will be having their
final ballot access hearings before the Champaign County Electoral
Board beginning at 8:30am on Tuesday July 27th in Courtroom K of the
Champaign County Courthouse.

All supporters and reporters are encouraged to attend these hearings
(8:30am (Green for District 9, Zach Miller), 9am (Greens for District
7, Dave Sacks and Ken Urban), 9:30am (Green for District 8, Susan
Rodgers), and 10:30am (Socialist Equality Party Candidate for State
Representative, Tom Mackaman)). 

Local operatives of the democratic party have launched bad faith
efforts to keep third party candidates off the ballot and they must
know that they do not operate in the dark. It is important for
community members to witness these procedings.

Objectors to these campaigns' petitions seek to disenfranchise those
who do not write their apartment number or street direction on a form,
students who visit home while the dorms are closed, those who have
married and changed their last name to a hyphenated form, and even the
candidates themselves (objectors to Tom Mackaman's petition claim that
his own signature is invalid!).

In all of these cases third party candidates have worked hard to earn
their place on the ballot, they've been required to work harder than
the major party candidates, they've acheived the neccessary levels of
support to gain ballot access, and the legal maneuvering of objectors
has led to month long delays, legal expenses, and general diversion
from fundraising and campaigning. At the end of the day, if justice is
served, we will all be on the ballot and the voters of the community
will take notice of this Machiavellian mockery of democracy.

Hopefully we'll see some friendly smiling faces in the courtroom tomorrow!
