* COVERING CHICAGO'S COMMUNITIES *
featured Saturday, March 12, 8 p.m. on Community, Media & You

Studs Terkel Award winners Windy City Times' Tracy Baim, Chicago Reader's
John Conroy and Chicago Tribune's Mary Schmich discuss the nature of
journalism in Chicago and news consumers' complaint that local news isn't
covering enough of the important issues concerning their community or
efforts to affect positive change, with host Thom Clark.

Along with James Weinstein, founding publisher of In The Times, Tracy, John
and Mary are being awarded Studs Terkel Awards for excellence in covering
Chicago in all its diversity. Like Studs, they help keep the flame of
grassroots Chicago alive. They will receive their awards at the April 6
ceremonies. To congratulate Tracy, John, Mary and Jimmy or buy a ticket to
one of the best parties in town, see

Another frequently asked question about "Getting On The Air & Into Print" .
. .

* IS THE SAME INFORMATION IN THE MEDIA GUIDE BOOK ON THE CD-ROM? *

Yes and no. The information for news outlets in the book is also provided
on the CD. Articles and advice previously only available in print are now
on the CD too. The digital media guide only differs because it includes a
few more names and contact information for journalists at smaller outlets
and features a video of prominent journalists offering media-access tips.
We recommend getting both the print and digital version because they are
organized differently. The book has enough white space for you to mark it
up or use it as a workbook, plus has a variety of helpful lists. The CD
provides a method for searching, sorting and exporting directory
information and making labels and lists. Together they offer the most
powerful method for managing journalists' contact information and planning
campaigns. Learn more at http://www.newstips.org/cart/.
