This is Community Media Workshop's ever-popular workshop. During five
Fridays of intense training participants plan a media campaign around one
of their own stories, learning to develop a strategic media plan, pitch
stories, plan events and handle interviews. Working journalists
participate in many of the sessions.

Some space is still available for this workshop. Call us at 312-344-6400 if
you have questions.

community newspapers. We'll discuss the future of reporting local news,
the inside scoop on breaking news and whatever else participants have on
their minds. This moderated discussion organized by Community Media
Workshop with Columbia College's Student Satellite Chapter of the Chicago

Tuesday/February 7 - Power Pitching: The Phone Call Worth 1,000 Words
***************************************************************************
A short pitch call--followed by a short fax that puts an edge on your
story--usually works better than a longer elegantly worded news release.
It's effective and efficient. Learn how it works from nonprofit and labor
union writer/publicist Suzan Erem.

A few spots are still available for this workshop. Call us at 312-344-6400
if you have questions.

This is a crash course geared toward fine tuning an organization's
newsletter through effective design and collaboration with co-workers that
includes tips for non-designers and tricks for whipping the non-writers on
staff into shape.

Space is still available for this workshop for volunteers and staff of
non-profits. Call us at 312-344-6400 if you have questions.

Tuesday/February 28 & March 7 - Writing To Make The News
***************************************************************************
News releases, advisories, and pitch letters must carry a fresh, unique
idea and phrasing that immediately convince journalists a story and
organization is newsworthy. In this two-session workshop, participants
will find, craft and cultivate bright media moments and create story lines
and phrasing that win media coverage.

It's still early so space is still available for this workshop for
volunteers and staff of non-profits. Call us at 312-344-6400 if you have
questions.

To reserve your spot, go to www.newstips.org.
