Free Speech Radio News Announces Temporary Producer Position

Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) Producer Kata Mester may be taking a
three-month leave of absence beginning in the middle of January. FSRN is seeking a
temporary replacement for her. We will form an ad hoc committee to choose this
person.

FSRN is actively looking for both someone to fill in for Kata during her
absence – and a reporter to serve on the selection committee.

Ad Hoc Selection Committee member – The FSRN Steering Committee would like
one reporter who regularly files features for FSRN to participate in the
selection process. This should be someone who is very familiar with the full circle
process of filing for FSRN. That process includes pitching stories, submitting
scripts for editorial review, digital editing of stories and submission of
completed work on deadline. This person should have extensive experience working
with the FSRN Editorial Team so they might better understand the
prerequisites necessary to identify a qualified candidate for this temporary position who
can transition very quickly into the role. The Selection Committee will
conduct interviews with the candidates for the Temporary Producer position on
Tuesday, December 23, 2003, from 7 – 8 PM EST. Selection Committee members should be
available during that time. As the deadline for resumes for the position is
Monday, December 22, 2003, committee members should have time available to
review applications as they come in and be prepared to participate in the
interviews on the 23rd.

Deadline for Selection Committee application: December 19, 2003

Temporary Producer – The FSRN Steering Committee seeks a Temporary Producer
for the features portion of the daily cast for a period to begin in mid-January
and last for three months. Interested parties should have advanced
production skills including – but not limited to – the following:

Identifying issues to be covered
Soliciting reporters from a 200 plus domestic and international pool
Maintaining communication with reporters
Participate in training new reporters about how to file for FSRN
Responding to pitches
Editing copy
Trafficking interviews
Scheduling cast

The Producer will be responsible for establishing groundwork for FSRN’s
election season coverage and must maintain knowledge of daily news cycles and
developments. Candidates should have strong communications skills, high attention
to detail and advanced digital editing abilities. Experience with the daily
process of FSRN production and collective editorial process is highly
recommended. Candidates should have access to recording and digital editing equipment,
Internet, and both domestic and international long distance services.

Salary: $150.00 per day
Deadline for Temporary Producer application: Monday, December 22, 2003
Interviews to be scheduled for December 23, 2003, between 7 and 8 PM EST.
Please keep this time available – we will notify candidates selected for
interviews as soon after reviewing applications as possible.

Please forward resumes to Deepa Fernandes at dfernandes at wbai.org or call Nell
Abram at 813-251-5813 for more information.
