World Vision Radio
Call for Stories
What is The World Vision Report?
The World Vision Report is a weekend newsmagazine and daily feature that
draws attention to the human drama behind the global issues and events that impact
the worldâs poorest children and families. Hosted by Peggy Wehmeyer, former
ABC World News Tonight Correspondent, The World Vision Report and two-minute
excerpts from the program air on more than 650 Christian stations nationwide.
We are not looking for reports about the work of World Vision, our parent
company. We are not fundraising or preaching. Our goal is to produce
sound-rich human interest reports that help Americans to understand the struggles of
people who live in poverty and the pain of people who face political repression.
We hope that by raising awareness we will increase compassion in the U.S.
and believe the most compelling pieces can be told by talking to the poor and to
the people working to help them. If faith is a natural part of the story, we
would encourage you to include that.
How to Pitch a Story
Send your story ideas and how you would propose developing the story to
editor Diane Toomey, d_toomey at comcast.net or call her at 617-489-6055.
We will consider repackaged stories and previously aired pieces . All
stories we accept -- whether new, previously aired or repackaged -- will be made
available on our website for up to one year. We reserve the right to edit
submitted pieces.
If you are a first time contributor, please include a CD/Website URL of your
demo.
Our Production Requirements
1. Written scripts must be submitted to WVR and approved prior to editing
2. All sound must be high quality
3. All translations must be accurate
4. Stories must have a 2-6 week shelf life, unless agreed upon with WVR
staff.
5. Stories can be recorded on mini-disc, DAT, CD or cassette tape
6. Once weâve agreed to purchase a piece, weâll send you a contract
outlining the rate of pay.
Payment
World Vision Radio pays on a per minute rate; rounded to the nearest 1/4
minute. Rate is $100/minute.
Payment is made within 30 days after receipt and final approval of
air-quality elements. If WVR requires additional work after acceptance, additional
payments beyond the per-minute, or contracted rate, will be negotiated.
Expenses
All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed, but must be approved in advance
by World Vision.
Technical Requirements
1. Sound needs to be recorded live and on location
2. While on location, please record up to 90 seconds of ambient sound
3. When possible, indigenous music should be recorded
4. When recording, subjects should be close-miked and sound carefully
monitored
5. World Vision reserves the right to reject a story or require that
additional sound be gathered or narration re-recorded if tape is considered
substandard. If a story is rejected, a kill-free will be negotiated.
6. Ideally, story elements will be posted to our ftp site. Weâll handle the
mix.
7. You may also ship elements on mini-disc, CD or DAT.
8. Professional recording equipment should be used
9. Stories should be signed, âFor The World Vision Report, Iâm (your name)
