[Imc-tech] Mapped drives

Media production folk,

When logging onto the domain in the production room, you will get two
drives that are located on the server. One is "Z:" and represents
your home drive on the server. You can use this for long term storage
of things you'll need again at some point. It's private to your
account. The other drive is "Y:", which is \\dewey\big, the big
shared space on the server. Use this to drop things if you want other
people to grab them, but you don't know which production room machine
they'll be using. For example, if you put something in a folder
"Y:\For Jane" then anyone with a domain login can get it at that same
location, regardless of which machine they are using.

NOTE: this server is currently pretty slow. It can take a _long_ time
to move things back and forth. I'm working on that. But it's still
usable. Note that you shouldn't edit audio directly from the server,
e.g. open up a file on Y or Z with SoundForge. You need to copy it to
the E drive first. (On Rosa and Mojo, "E:" is the big audio editing
drive.)

Finally, note that when logging into these machines, _don't_ save
anything big on the desktop. Your desktop is stored on the server,
and gets copied to/from the server everytime your logout/login.
Dropping a 200MB audio file on the desktop will ensure a 30 minute
wait to login, which will usually timeout and fail to login at all.
Even worse, when logging out, if you saved something important on the
desktop, and it times out, you will lose that important thing. (It
won't be there when you next login.) This problem will mostly go away
when we buy faster networking cards for mojo and dewey, but not
completely. Don't store big things on the desktop!
