Thanks!  I kicked an Apache restart, but before that, I attached
to the runaway Apache process, and got this stack trace.  Not so
helpful right now, but it seemed like maybe it's stuck in malloc or
its helper-function mallopt.  Maybe.  Hope this helps someone.
