Just thinking out loud, here, for all the web to read. :-)

Since a lot of people who use IMC's mailing lists for conversation,
or else for contacting IMC, do not realize their emails will appear
on the web, maybe (1) the subscription message should tell them in no
uncertain terms that their emails *will* be archived on the web, and
(2) all "first contact" emails (through web "mailto:" urls and such)
should be directed to a private mailing list.
