Present: Stephen Fonzo, Josh King, Chris Ritzo, Dan Blah, Tommy Griscom,
Chris Hampson, Copenhaver Cumpston

We had a very constructive meeting this week and have the following to
report (I will also start, or have started, separate threads for each of
these topics):

*University of Illinois Press 4th/5th grade social justice essay documentary
*- Cope Cumpston, Art Director for the U of I Press, is organizing a student
essay radio program (WEFT 90.1FM) and Martin Luther King Day
Performance/film showing, and would like the IMC Production group to help
- We of course are very happy to be a part of this. There will be two days
of filming and a film showing on January 24. We will need volunteers to
help with shooting video and/or editing. Here is the timeline:

Sunday, Jan 11 (this weekend) @ Cope Cumpston's house, 3-4pm (204 West
Nevada on the corner of Birch in Urbana)
- Student readings and an introduction to the project;
- Tommy Griscom suggested that he is interested in videotaping this event.
Tommy, could you also do some interviewing (video or audio is fine,
depending on what people are comfortable with)?

Monday, Jan 19 (MLK Day) @ WEFT, 6-7pm
- Over 200 4th and 5th grade students will be writing essays on social
justice, and 15 will be selected to perform their works on WEFT.
- Chris Evans has confirmed that he will film this event. Chris will also
be producing a Champaign-Urbana MLK Day video collage to answer the
question, "What is the state of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream in C-U
today?"

Jan 19 - Jan 23 - video editing at the IMC
- This could be done by a few people, depending on who is not in DC for the
inauguration
- GOALS: a film that can be played on loop, showcasing the different student
essays/performances and interviews with students and teachers *[Cope, do you
have a target length for this film?]*

Saturday, Jan 24 MLK Celebration *[Time and place?]*
- Final video will be displayed on rotation during the event
- We will also publish the film on IMC web site, YouTube, UPTV, and audio on
WRFU and WEFT

After the event, Nicole and I will be working with Cope and the READY school
to develop outreach and media training. If anyone on this list would like
to inform others (like CUCPJ) about the social justice student essay film or
event, please forward this to your group or contact Cope at
cumpston at uillinois.edu. Please contact me if you can help with video
shooting, editing, or training.

*IMC Film Festival - February 6, 7, 8

*We have one month until the Film Fest and our plans are coming together,
but we have much to do. We consensed as a group that we will need to
coordinate our efforts in the following steps:

Web site > Sponsors > PSAs/Fliers/Posters > Get Film Submissions from
independent artists > Determine show schedule > LOTS of promotion > Space
Preparation

Dan and Rory are working on a 5.1 surround sound setup for the main space;
Chris H. will get a projector; we have a large canvas screen, which we will
try positioning for maximum visibility; we will need all the couches and
seats we have or can get; Dan has a DJ in mind for one of the receptions -
we should also get a small jazz band for the other. Food/drink sponsors
still need to be secured.

We will get together for a planning brunch and workday this Sunday. We're
meeting at 11am (I think) at Radio Maria for brunch. Then, we're meeting at
Dan's house afterwards (starting around 1:30pm) for a workday to do the
following in breakout groups:

1) website creation and design
2) design fliers and posters, and develop promotion campaign
3) write record PSAs and radio spots
4) discuss sponsorship (food/drinks/videos)
5) e-mail filmmakers to solicit video submissions and promote to the
artist/filmmaker community

Let me know if you want access to our Google planning document.

*Washington DC Inauguration Trip/Indymedia Coverage

*The UC-IMC is sending a delegation to Obama's inauguration (1/17 through
1/21), and we will be posting our blogs, photos, videos, and audio to the
Internet and to a home team here in U-C for online, radio, and public TV
distribution. The goal is to capture the social aspects of the event, and
citizen's perspectives. This means Production will be checking out its own
equipment for those 4 days for internal IMC use; those staying in town will
need to acquire camcorders from UPTV or from someone they know.

Who can be on the home front to receive e-mail attachments, download files,
send to radio (WRFU and WEFT, primarily), etc.?

We will check with Tech and Web to make sure we can keep a running update on
the front page of the UCIMC site, with links to media files and blogs.
