[UCIMC-Tech] IMC tech issues update & GRC tech prep timeline

Good evening all,

I'm happy to report that the network connectivity issues folks have been
experiencing at the IMC this week are largely resolved. Wired connections
and wireless networks should be available and provide internet connections
in all areas of the building.

Several factors contributed to this outage, mostly due to some
mis-configurations on trunk ports between network switches after one switch
was moved to another last weekend in
preparation for our new UC2B connection. Comcast's network is suffering
major issues relating to the heat according to their support line.

We may continue to experience speed issues- this is related to Comcast's
network issues and not the IMC's network. It's just the nature of the beast
until we move to UC2B.

*GRC Website*
Some items from the last organizers meeting and David's email from earrrly
this morning regarding a mirror, suggested folks were thinking about moving
the site.
Josh King's work to upgrade the webserver where the site is hosted now
should have made the site much quicker and more robust. I would urge
against moving the site.

Have folks noticed improvement in the responsiveness of the site?

*Remaining Issues for GRC*
This Saturday morning will be a work day for Tech. Barry Todd, myself and
anyone else who wants to help will be working on the remaining tech
preparations for the GRC.

- Make, test and run network cables through the production room/office lab
ceiling, connect to 12 PCs
- Finish setup and software installation on 12 Ubuntu PCs for the lab, 3
PCs for the media carts
- Network cable runs to key presentation areas (stage, Sun Room, library,
family room)
- Additional switch configuration as necessary
- ???? - anything else? please reply...
