[UCIMC-Tech] Internet Down from IMC Building

Just thought I'd follow up on this with my understanding of what
happened (based on our internal log):

We were notified at around 2:00 PM on 6/24 about the problem (which had
apparently been ongoing for a day) via a phone call from Dean, who spoke
with Brandon M. Thomas was at lunch at the time but returned around 3pm
and saw an email from Sophia that came in at 2:53 PM.

After some initial troubleshooting that was not fruitful, Thomas
dispatched Tony to go there, and he was onsite by 3:30 PM. Tony found a
switch to be nonresponsive, returned the next day with a replacement.
Tony confirmed computers were online while on site, sometime around 3PM
6/25.

If there was a problem beyond that, it was not reported to us.

I'm not sure how you want the internal escalation to go, but as far as
escalating to us (which you're welcome to do at any point), it's best to
call us at 367-8656 as soon as you know the extent of the problem, so
that we can get someone on site if needed--hopefully while you're still
there that day. When you call, you should almost always get a human
between 9am and 5pm, and often after that, but in any case you should
get a quick response from a level two tech (Thomas, Tony, or myself).
If anyone is ever concerned about it (no need to wait til tempers are
raw!) feel free to call my cell phone 217 721-3893 and I can figure out
what the status is but THAT IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A REAL PROBLEM REPORT!!! =)
