I've gotten to the bottom of it. The problem was with one of my
roomate's machines being trojaned. I shut it down at 6:30pm and that
took care fo the problem but when she turned it back on the problem
returned until my other roomate (Arun) cleaned up her computer
somewhat.

The problem could still come back as I haven't installed any
anti-virus on her computer yet.

The moral of the story for the kids at home is to never run a
downloaded program that you don't know you can trust and always use
ad-aware and a virus scanner.
