You may have noticed that the server is a little slow today. That is no accident. Last night in a meeting of the UC-IMC Secret Council we voted by a margin of 4-1 to redirect 4 out of 5 packets to our contact in the FBI. Our hope is that Agent A. F. Day will be able to use Carnivore technologies to identify the speech patterns of those commentators on our website that do not pass the Progressive Litmus Test. We will then find those people's IP addresses and have them blacklisted. We are certain that Agent Day is not going to let this information get into the wrong hands because he has been really nice to us and he smiles a lot. Never fear, your information is secure if slow, it is being entrusted to a trusted ally in the federal government and soon we'll be rid of all those "wrong ideas" that keep cropping up on our website. This is a great example of a way that Indymedia can subvert the government's own technology for our own benefit by exploiting social networks and the general decency of federal workers. All of this is in keeping with the spirit of RFC 4041 which is now official Internet Policy. If we do not conform to RFC4041 we may be subject to server seizure. -- Zachary C. Free Press, a non-profit organization working to involve the public in media policy-making and to craft policies for a more democratic media system, is hosting the National Conference for Media Reform in St. Louis, MO, May 13 - 15, 2005. The conference will bring together over a thousand activists, scholars, media creators, and policy makers for an event focused on building momentum for media policy battles and activist campaigns on the local, regional, and national levels. Free Speech TV, a non-profit, public interest television network, is coordinating an independent media caucus during the conference. The goal of the caucus is to discuss independent media producer's media policy priorities, and to discuss how we can help advance media reform campaigns. We are reaching out to decision makers from a broad range of independent media projects to encourage you to register for the conference, and join us at this caucus. The conversation will include discussion on building a working model for a progressive media "echo-chamber," one that will amplify voices making a case for media reform. Corporate media outlets routinely play the role of bullhorn for special interests. Thanks to reduced news budgets and increased investment in public relations, corporate campaigns to privatize water, to de-regulate industry, and other questionable policy agendas, go straight from the corporate boardroom to the front page. Can we take this model and turn it to our advantage? We're looking forward to a conversation among participants in this Independent Media Caucus to discuss ways to make this happen -- without adding additional work or costs. If you're planning to attend the conference, we hope you can join us to meet your peers working in Independent Media, to discuss the need for media reform, and to find ways we can make a difference. Caucuses at the conference are tentatively scheduled for the 4:00 - 5:30 slot on the Saturday evening please look for this in the program. Typicfally, we go ahead and hide duplicate articles once we have confirmed they are essentially identical or if the second article is a correction on the first. If you have created an account on the website, you can also go back and re-edit your article to check the local interest box to move it up to the Local newswire. In any case, we're glad to host your notice of the Guatemala conference here. Please feel free to update your article as you feel appropriate or repost it again if it moves off the mainpage before the conference starts. We would be especially glad to have a report from the conference itself. Such a news article will be considered for Feature status. Regards, Mike Lehman Timothy J. This is an OLD dada vulnerability that we patched a long time ago. Options None AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all It would be nice if dada were patched to disallow these filetypes as well. We shouldn't disable "non-image uploads" since sound files and some video uploads are also legitimate. But we should severely restrict the types of multimedia that folks can upload.
