Brian,
No, you don't need a user account to post. However, using it offers two 
advantages. One, you can edit your own posts. This one has a spot in in 
it where you're talking about Susan McGrath where it needs an edit or 
two. You can do that yourself, but only if you post it under your account.
Second, having it properly attributed to you probably reinforces your 
credibility in the minds of readers. If your articles always show up as 
posted by anonymous, people will wonder about that to some extent.

It's your call though.

I'm going to make it a Feature. Let us know if you have some text you 
want revised and what to substitute, since you won't be able to edit 
this one yourself.
