The Tech Group passed the following equipment check-out policy by consensus
at this evening's meeting. This policy goes into effect Monday, Feb. 11
and institutes fines for late equipment returns. So if you have late
equipment, return it before Monday to avoid a fine., just like the Library.
Remember, you set your own return date, so just be realistic and there's no
problem. All that we're really asking is that you be fair in using the
equipment by letting others know when to expect it back and making sure you
adhere to that time. Those who don't pay their fines will not use the
equipment.

Equipment Check-out and Return Policy
Introduction:
The Tech group maintains a set of field recording equipment that is
reserved for check-out by U-C IMC members only. The work of members and
the IMC is inconvenienced or compromised when equipment is monopolized or
cannot be located due to a failure to follow instructions. Therefore
members who check out equipment are expected to be respectful of other
equipment users by treating equipment with care, scheduling a return time,
and returning it on time. All rules in this policy are intended to make
sure equipment is fairly available and useable to all members.
Equipment Kits:
Most equipment is packaged into kits suited to different purposes, such as
interviewing, lectures, etc. Equipment that is contained in kits may only
be checked out as a full kit. Individual pieces of equipment, such as
microphones or minidisk recorders, may not be checked-out separately.
Check-Out:
Each kit or piece of equipment has a clipboard associated with it in the
equipment cabinet. On the appropriate clipboard write your name, contact
information, the date you are checking out equipment and the date that you
will return it. You must fill in all information, including a return date,
for all equipment you check out.
Fines:
Fines are levied on members for returning equipment late and for failing to
specify a return date when equipment is checked out. Once a member has
incurred a fine s/he may not check out equipment until the fine is paid in
full. A list of members who may not check out equipment will be posted
inside the equipment cabinet.
Fine schedule:
Late: $1 per day after the specified return date for any given piece of
equipment.
No Return Date: $1 the equipment is considered late if it is not returned
and no return date is specified within 1 day of its check-out. Late fines
apply after this time.
Fine Payment:
Members who incur fines will be notified by the Tech Group of their
fines. Fines may be paid during the weekly Tech meeting, or by leaving
check or money in a "fine jar" inside the equipment cabinet. Payment must
be labeled with your name. It is recommended that you send an e-mail to
the Tech Group e-mail address if you pay your fine using the "fine jar."
The Tech Group will notify members when their payment is received. It may
take as long as a few days for the fine payment to be noted by the Tech
Group and for a member's check-out privileges to be resumed.
