At least one person had an argument against each of the names on our
list. Because of this we'll open up to more name submissions. Pauline
will send a message to the IMC list soliciting names. Next Sunday, the
news group will formally decide on a new name.
Radio for Peace International: Pauline is going to Costa Rica (Ciudad
Colon) to intern with RFPI at the end of February and will stay for 4-5
months. She wants to know what we want from her while she's there, and if
we know about any stories currently happening. Danielle asked Pauline to
bring back training, tip us off on international stories, and call or email
us each Saturday night to let us know what she's been up to. Pauline can
post to the news list and let us know what she's producing. She also wants
to know if she can borrow a minidisc recorder (the international
one). Knows it's a long time to take equipment, but she plans on doing
things for UCIMC. We'll try to raise funds to equip Pauline for the trip
(a send-off fundraiser).
Rep for Programming Committee Meeting: Danielle can't be there (Wednesday,
January 23). Need a rep to attend PC meeting to say that we're going to 30
minutes and supplying the new name. Would be good for it to be someone
who's been listening to the newshours. Pauline will be there; OTHERS
SHOULD ATTEND.
Collaboration with "Public I" group: Paul Mueth joined us.
· Paul volunteered an interview about Argentina he's done with Mark
Weisbrot. Peter requested a 5 min spot for tomorrow's newshour.
· UI Budget Cuts -- Avram's interested.
· Charter school -- Nathaniel Banks, chair of the charter school
initiative, may write for Public I. Paul suggested that a counterpoint may
also be presented.
· Enron -- series on oil/war/drugs, colombia-afghanistan-enron (Paul
M./Dan C.)
· Champaign school board closing meetings to public comment (?)
· Reparations -- article coming up. Written by head of afro-american
research program at UI. (Sundiata ???)
· BOAST Academy, after school minority student program at UI. (Avram
could guide people to sources)
Final notes: Avram is going to the AFSC meeting about Iraq activism. Will
return with mucho audio.
