Urbana’s Draft Climate Action Plan Phase 1 Available for Review and Comment
September 13, 2012: The City of Urbana’s Draft Climate Action Plan
Phase 1 will be made available to the public at Urbana’s Market at the
Square on Saturday, September 15, 2012. City staff will also be
present to answer your questions on strategies proposed in the Phase 1
Plan.
The Market at the Square is open from 7:00AM to 12:00PM on Saturday,
located on the corner of Illinois and Vine Streets. Stop by and visit
city staff at the northwest entrance to the Market, closest to Lincoln
Square Village. We greatly value public input about our efforts to
reduce greenhouse gasses.
For those unable to attend Saturday’s Market, the draft plan will be
available for public review and comment on the City’s website at

Background:
The City is working to reduce its’ environmental impacts while
improving the quality of life and supporting economic vitality. The
Draft Climate Action Plan will guide the community in the reduction of
its energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions. The Sustainability
Advisory Commission as well as public input have and will continue to
guide the City towards the most beneficial and impactful climate change
mitigation strategies.
The City has completed the first step of the Climate Action Plan by
conducting a greenhouse gas inventory which is an assessment of the
greenhouse gas emissions from various sectors (residential, commercial,
transportation, and solid waste). With a proposed goal of reducing
community greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by the year 2020, the Draft
Climate Action Plan Phase 1 is a community-wide plan that identifies
initial strategies to achieve this goal.
