First of all, September may have been the worst month yet. I say this
because of numerous updating errors I made and mostly because I recycled
an unpleasant hypertext shortstory about 15 times.

This was intentional, as I had (got) to leave Illinois twice in September,
so I gave myself a sort of half-month off. But the whole time I was
coiling for the spring, er, fall, that is, autumn - the last 3 months.
Resting up for the final push.

Anyway, the upcoming reading has triggered a sort of spirited rennaissance
and I have received many fine poems to kick off the month. Keep 'em
coming. We've got a radiation disaster in JApan, earthquakes in Mexico and
aftershocks in Taiwan, the Carolinas are wet, the US has quietly bombed
Iraq every day this year (read this month's Progressive), and Russia is
suffering from terrorist attacks and a Chechnya who refuses to be bombed
into submission.

My thoughts on 2000 is that, unless there is a revolution or the Internet
collapses, I will keep Newspoetry going but without the compulsion to
update it daily. This will allow me to work on other things. It will make
the site less fun to visit on a daily basis, but may have the positive
effect that any Newspoems I receive will be posted with minimal delay. (As
it is, I try to work a few days in advance in case I am hit by a car or
stricken by melancholy or writer's block. So when I get a bunch of poems
at once, some of them are delayed.)

This is a ton of fun and It's forced me to learn more about computers at a
turtle's pace instead of a snail's. So kudos (Greek word meaning "kudos")
and good vibes! Thanks for being content and even form providers.

One last note: at some point (July) I added author photos. Like everything
else, this was done in a mad rush so I
didn't actually get to discuss it with people or have everyone sign
release forms. It's kind of ethically murky.
Also, some poets who wrote things before July don't have
photos yet. Scanning things is a very procratinatible task, especially on
my old three-wheeler Windows 95 14.4 antiquarian PC.

If anyone has an opinion on this, wishes they have a photo but don't,
vice-versa, or wants to manufacture their own image,
by all means... 100 by 50 dots at 72 dpi...

William
