Well, there's always the option of getting them used. Goodwill and
Salvation Army and Vintage clothiers all have the advantages over the
purveyors of un-pre-owned haberdashery that a)It's generally easier on the
old pocketbook, b)You don't end up looking like a conformist drone or
walking billboard from MTV or some catalogue and c)It's in a sense one of
the most direct types of recycling you can engage in; no more
manufacturing needs to be done in order to clothe you. And since it's not
worth the while of Gap or A&F to manufacture clothing with
differentiations in size more precise than S, M, L and XL, you may actualy
get clothes that fit better if you go used (I know I have).
Side note:
This might not be for the free-time-deprived but I've been considering
lately getting into making clothing. I know there may be other newspoets
out there who do this and that one has to initially spring for a sewing
machine. It's also not 100% recycling because you have to buy fabric
(which may or may not be manufactured under ideal labor conditions). If
anyone has experience with this and has essential tips to offer, I'd dig
it.
Peace
You're all...
