More Crack Reporting With the Daily Illini

In their most daring expose to date, the Daily Illini reported that underage
drinkers were more likely to purchase alcoholic beverages at local bars than
at hamburger franchises. Although a previous story described 19- and
20-year-old students drinking at Kam's, there have been no observations of
McDonalds, Steak and Shake, Arby's, or Wendy's selling liquor to minors.

"These establishments have clearly shown responsibility in promoting a
healthy lifestyle to young people," commented a University administrator.
However, the DI story was not without controversy. A letter writer
complained about the paper's lack of "school spirit" and others questioned
the story's accuracy. "Sure, they say they didn't see McDonalds selling
liquor to minors, but how closely were they watching?" asked an
undergraduate speech communication major.
