Lazio Presidential Material
 Cannot Walk and Chew Gum at Same Time
  Ford: "A Republican After My Heart"

Queens, NY -- Rick Lazio's fledgeling senate campaign against first
lady Hilary Clinton burst out of the starting gate today with a
high-profile endorsement from former president Gerald Ford.

"Rick's a great guy, and a real republican, a republican after my
heart," said Ford shortly after phoning Lazio at the Long Island
Jewish Hospital, where he was undergoing minor surgery on his lip
following an accident during a parade.  Lazio tripped and fell flat on
his face.  "I think he's the right man for any position you could
throw at him," Ford added, repeating his answer when asked if that
meant the presidency as well as the senate.

Lazio is recovering quickly after receiving eight stitches on his
upper lip and having a piece of chewing gum which was lodged in his
mouth removed.  Apparently Lazio was unable to chew the gum
simultaneously with marching in the parade and shaking the hands of
supporters.
