Memorial Day
Weekend Brings Increases In
Newspoetry Price

Urbana,	IL (Associated Poets)

Memorial day
Newspoetry prices soar
poetic justice?

Poetry produ-
cing and exporting people
(POPEC) cuts output

Once 3 cents a word,
newspoetry now costs
almost 12 cents

Greenspan cites this
as a sign of inflation.
Readers must budget.

"Without poetry,"
complains local resident
"the news is boring."

The price of crude news
remains at an all-time low,
so why the price hike?

A poet shortage;
seller's market for labor --
highly skilled labor.

"It's cheaper just to
write the Newspoems myself,"
says the editor.

"But will my readers
put up with this all summer?"
he wonders aloud.

For now, he won't know.
Those who need Newspoetry
continue to pay,

and Alan Greenspan's
poetic austerity
reigns, for the moment.
