Hi all...
got this off the YDS list, and it's totally throwing me for a curve. i
have no idea what to make of this, either side of this...i'm too
flabbergasted to write a newspoem about this right now, but i may in a day
or two when i have the time and energy to sift through the mental rubble
and form an opinion. anyway, this little news bite was too enticing not
to pass on to you all.

Subject: [YDS-discuss] China Shuts Down Leftist Magazine

Tuesday August 14 10:30 PM ET
China Shuts Magazine That Attacked President Jiang
BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese authorities have suspended a leftist magazine
which attacked President Jiang Zemin (news - web sites) over his decision to
allow capitalists to join the Communist Party, a magazine official said
Wednesday.

The monthly ``Zhenli de Zhuiqiu'' (''The Search for Truth'') was suspended
indefinitely after its July issue, an official in the magazine's marketing
department told Reuters.

``There has been a problem on the editorial side and the delivery of the
magazine has been suspended,'' she said. ``I have no idea when it will
resume.''

Staff said they did not know why it had been targeted but the magazine has
published a series of articles attacking Jiang's decision to embrace the
capitalist class.

Jiang threw open the doors to private entrepreneurs, previously classified
as ``exploiters,'' in a July 1 speech to mark the party's 80th anniversary.
