Howdy poets,

I think I've caught up with the emails and here's what I know and don't
about our performances this week:

Wednesday at 8 PM everyone is invited to read newspoems or perform
anything on WEFT 90.1 FM. It will be a good opportunity to rehearse
material for Friday. I do not yet know whether there will be a laptop at
the station, and I'll make a final announcement. It is not a pledge drive
and I have no other plans for the two hours. Show up if you want, let me
know if you want a ride.

Friday in Chicago I think we have the following confirmed readers so far:

Nicky
Anne
Bob
Paul
William
Joe
Bethany (might come but might not read I think she said)

Mike will come if it can be arranged that he is picked up on campus and
returns that evening. I think it would be wise to expect at least one
unconfirmed reader as well. Scott, Dirk, Ben, Bill, Maiko, Nick all come
to mind.

TENTATIVE TRAVEL PROPOSAL:

It looks like I will have a working van that seats seven comfortably. At
this point I imagine caravaning up in two vehicles, leaving no later than
mid-afternoon. After the reading we may form two columns. The first column
will return to Urbana with Mike. The second column will stay in the city.
We can crash probably some at Scott's, maybe some with Tony. We can bring
stuff to make floors more comfortable. The second column can return
Saturday. Something like a Newspoetry/Labor Day/Nazi Invasion of
Poland 62nd anniversary/Saturday Night Live/Birthday party would be nice,
either in Chicago Friday or on Urbana's upper east side (Me & Mike's)
Saturday night.

When we have coherent plans, we might also issue an invitation for Urbana
audience members to populate Mike's second column.

Otherwise, if there's just the seven people above, is it okay for us all
to go up in my van, spend the night in Chi-town, and return the next day?

Regarding the reading, with upwards of 7 poets and an hour of allotted
time for reading and pointing and clicking and hemming and hawing and
heckling, I think that a ceiling of three poems per reader seems snug.
We're looking at fewer than 8 minutes per person if everything goes
perfectly smoothly. We should also plan on an intro from our
editor-despite-chief.

I'll plan on reading just the Ventriloquist's Administration. I'll
volunteer to point and click the whole time if we need a mouse monkey.
I'll bring a flag and typewriter. Futrelle and Rettberg should exchange
cellphone numbers so we have a mobile communications link. I'd love it if
Joe or Paul or Mike captured the performance to minidisc for broadcast
and Web archiving.

Scott, let us know if you still need titles, URLs, accented syllables,
etcetera.

Everybody let everybody know what we think about all of the above
regarding the Windy City.

Thanks,
William

Dear Newspoets:

CLTV will be taping next Friday's Interactions: Newspoetry event for
rebroadcast.

Tell your friends and students to make the shew:

INTERACTIONS: NEWSPOETRY
Aug. 31st
7-8:30 P.M
University of Illinois at Chicago
Student Services Building, Conference Room B, 1200
W. Harrison (northwest corner of Harrison and Racine)

Joe Futrelle and all npoets,

Could we get a list who's going to be there, and what they're going to read?
Steve Tomasula could use this as soon as possible as well.

I'll be posting fliers around town and I faxed in the info to the papers, so
hopefully we'll get a listing in the Reader, etc. but we're counting on word
of mouth to fill the seats. Tell everyone you know.

All Best,

Scott
