hey poets of newstype, this here is a reminder about the call for poets
(newspoets in particular) to participate in the Prompting Theater's Street
Theater Festival on saturday, august 4th (storm date, sunday, august 5th).
The idea is that throughout the day there will be lots of theater going
on. but a lot of time, there will be no theater. during these times we
want there to be music and poetry filling the air and ear of the audiences
who are browsing the festival. so come out all ye newspoets, to read your
favorite poems throughout the day (the festival starts at noon at ends
around 5:45ish). poetry readings won't be schedule, per se. so, poets
can show up at any time and read, so long as there's no theater going on
(don't want competition for the theater folks). if newspoets are there
all day, then newspoetry will look way cool, like some sort of active
participating group in the community (or something like that). i'm
guessing that no one would have to read for more than a few minutes at a
time anyways. each theater event starts on the half hour, and can only
last up to a half hour. i'm thinking most of the performances will be at
least 15 minutes or so (some longer, a few maybe shorter). the silent
times in between acts will be filled with musicians and poets strolling
the streets. get the picture?

it's hip, it's happenin', it's, well, a fundraiser for the prompting
theater
(for those of you who don't know, the prompting theater is a local
champaign/urbana theater troupe comprised of adults with developmental
disabilities....and yes, they will be performing in the
festival....actually, twice)

i leave the planning of the readings in yall capable hands. remember,
there's no official poetry reading time, so read whenever the silence
moves ya to. with enough poets there, it should be fun. also, feel free
to dress up (considering this is a street theater festival!!!) to add to
the atmosphere of the festival. clown costumes, neofuturist outfits, and
eclectic sandals welcomed!

feel free to contact me with questions, ideas, comments, or if you want to
read poetry and want me to know that you'll be there, so that i'm not
having my head explode trying to guess whether or not any poets will be
there.

oh, by the way, just so you know, there won't be a microphone for you to
use, so you'll have to read poetry the old fashioned way, you'll have to
scream it at folks!

thanks, groovy people,

brian
