[Newspoetry] Bush critic commits "suicide"

This guy wrote a book about how Bush's daddy got him off the hook from a
drug charge. Nobody doubts that Bush did coke, and author Terry Reed
claims to have been present at a drug sting that snared Bush at Tamiami
airport, which was videotaped. Assassinated CIA asset Barry Seal claimed
to have a copy of that tape with every intent to use it for blackmail -
probably just to save his own life rather than for money.

This guy's book was dropped by its publisher during the campaigns because
the author had a criminal record - *not* because anybody claimed there was
a problem with the journalism. It is back in print with another publisher.
The author is now dead. Drug-related, no less.

How convenient for Dubya. Suspiciously convenient if you ask me.

Drug-Charge Book Author Takes Own Life with Drug Overdose

J.H. Hatfield, author of Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an
American President, a biography that charged that former President Bush
helped cover up a 1972 cocaine arrest of current President Bush, committed
suicide late last week via a drug overdose.

Fortunate Son was originally picked up by St. Martin's Press and had an
initial print run of 700,000 in 1999, when Governor Bush was a leading
candidate for the Republican nomination for president. But at publication
date, it was disclosed that Hatfield himself had a criminal record: he had
been convicted of hiring a hit man to kill his boss with a car bomb--an
effort that was unsuccessful.

St. Martin's promptly withdrew the book, which was shortly thereafter
picked up by SoftSkull Press, the New York City house that issued Fortunate
Son in paperback in early 2000. A second edition appeared just two weeks
ago.
