[Newspoetry] my rant about march 17th

i flew to north carolina
on march seventeenth
and the ncaa basketball tournament was going on

all the people here
are afflicted with a disease
called march madness

and they are oblivious to everything
but round leather balls
swishing through hoops ten feet in the air

ask anyone down here
and they will tell you that nothing is awry in the world
unless their favourite team lost today

the sports page does just fine down here
until the buzzer sounds on april second
but who ever heard of a newspoem from the sports page
