They used to tell me
I was living a dream
and so I followed the mob
when there were pills to swallow
or specialists to consult
I was there to follow
my Doc's decrees

They used to tell me
I was living a dream
with health and wellness for all
Why should I be standing in line
Just waiting to be called?

Once I had a doctor
He made me run
Kept this cold from getting worse
Once I had a doctor
Now he's gone
Brother, can you spare a nurse?

Once I had a surgeon
when they called her she'd come
and I'd still have some change in my purse
Once I had a surgeon
Now she's gone
Brother, can you spare a nurse?

Once in OR scrubs
Gee we looked well
Full of that family doctor's advice
A hundred million slippers would pad down the hall
and the nurse at the desk was so nice!
Say don't you remember?
You called my name
No overtime from you coerced
Why don't you remember?
I'm the same
Brother, can you spare a nurse?
