LANCASTER, Pa. –– W. Ralph Gamber, the founder of the honey company that
was the first to package the product in the bear-shaped plastic
containers now seen on grocery stores worldwide, died Saturday. He was
89.

Gamber founded Dutch Gold Honey Inc. in 1946 with a $27 investment in
three hives of bees at a farm sale. It grew into one of the largest
honey companies in the world. The bear-shaped plastic container was
introduced in 1957.

Gamber also founded Gamber Container Co. Inc., a distributor of glass
and plastic containers.
