I think someone recently was asking indirectly for poems of a slightly
'different' nature than they were receiving? Well, you can always count
on me...

Ship of Voles

Scientists gathered
To ask the age-old question,
"Why do voles fall in love?"

"Let's ask Frankie,"
Suggested one.
However, Frankie,
No longer a teenager,
Was getting senile (footnote 1)
And couldn't remember
If he'd ever known.

So these scientists did
What all scientists do.
They got grants
And performed studies.
And soon they discovered
A certain gene
Inserted into the vole's brain
Makes him more faithful longer.
A vole and his honey
No longer soon parted.

(1)The author of this poem has no idea whether Frankie Lymon is alive,
dead, senile, or at peak mental performance. The author of this poem has
no desire to receive angry letters from Frankie's grandkids. Thanks.
