i consider it of UTMOST importance that as many newspoets attend this, to
show that there can be several creative ways of responding to the building
frenzy in the u.s. unfortunately, this is alliance described below is
more pratical for urbana-champaign newspoets. however, perhaps it can
provide impetus for non urbana-champaign newspoets to help build their own
local A.W.A.R.E.s?

                      Who's Piecing It All Together?

The Anti-War, Anti-Racism Efforts (AWARE) is a new alliance of individuals
and groups working to oppose war and propose better alternatives.

Everyone is invited to the first meeting of AWARE:
                     Sunday, September 30 6 - 8 pm
at the University YMCA at Wright and Chalmers

   Common Concerns:

	- military build-up
	- threat of global de-stabilization
	- racism
	- reduction of civil liberties

   Why Come Together?

 	- coordinate efforts
	- share resources and ideas
	- make large scale actions possible

   Questions:

Q: I am horrified by the events of September 11 and want a
response, but I don't know if I support the current cry for
	     war. Should I come?
A: Yes. AWARE is an alliance to discuss and act for a
reasonable response - we need to brainstorm alternatives.

	Q: Who is organizing this?
A: AWARE is made up of those who come to the table to act
on common concerns. The first meeting will be facilitated by:
Laura Haber - former leader of the Committee
Against the War in the Gulf
		Peter Miller - union organizer
Danielle Chynoweth - member of Urbana City Council

Q: I'm an individual, how can I join the effort?
A: Come to the YMCA on Sunday.

Q: What if I'm just looking for more information?
A: Please come. The meetings will include information sharing.

Please contact the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort at 384-0299.
