QUOTE OF THE DAY -- NYTimes -- 31 March 2002
"Let's be clear about what brought it all to a halt: terrorism."
COLIN L. POWELL, Secretary of State, on Mideast talks.

Elsewhere, the murderous madman Sharon says that
Arafat is an enemy because he is a murderous madman.
I see little difference in Sharon, Arafat, Powell, Bush.

OF POLITICO DOUBLE-TALKS
Start your speech by pointing fingers
In the other guy's direction
There, where guns, bayonets and bombs
Will improve OUR understanding
And say, proudly, "Let US be clear..."

Such weapons work by mass clearing
Away Life-Homes of Less Others
As they were only nothing much,
Nothing suchs of little matters.

What matters? Moral clarity!
We cleared away all that passed
And left standing our claimed right
That their stuff did not matter much.

The Most Divine Right of Power
Lies in victimizing others;
By Force of Arms deciding Right
To sleep peacefully every night,
Untroubled by any Conscience,
Untroubled by true Memory
Of your own absolute duty
To kill none, to destroy nothing.

Untroubled by true memory
That History is to Justice
As a Samaritan stranger
Is to robbed and beaten Man.

When you find sadly injured
Another abandoned person --
Casualty of by-the-ways --
Relative innocence matters
Not at all; it matters nothing.

You may not sleep self-satisfied
As long as there's someone somewhere
Who has moral claims on you
To be sleeping peacefully:
All or none may sleep peacefully.

Let us be clear what Justice is:
Justice is conscience free of guilt.
Only a man who thinks such thought
Could know there is no Hercules
To clear-clean Augean stables.

Sins are ineradicable.
Power to destroy multiplies
Harms and divides Humanity.
Justice must be blind to its past:
There is no Right to History.

There is also no Left either.
There is no one to be left out
Of universal Justice's sway.
Justice is blind to future, too.
Justice is also blind to Now.

Justice is blind to Right and Wrong --
Pretended claims of Causality.
Justice feels and senses Presence
Justice hears the Injured crying.
Justice does not assign blame.
Justice assigns present Duty
To stop the crying, heal the harm.
Justice never speaks more clearly.

Thanks for listening,
Donald L Emerick
