A comparative analysis of different types of covers

A healthy system can make effective use of covers-such as a cover
crop in an agricultural system-as an integral part of the inner workings.
An unhealthy system-such as an oppressive political regime-will use covers
to suppress information it doesn't want people to know. A cover crop will
contribute to the overall functionality of the agricultural system.
Suppressing information will lead to the deterioration of the political
system. The cover crop is planted by drilling or broadcasting seed.
Information suppression begins with statements such as Ari Fliescher's
"You know I can't answer questions beginning with 'If'." The cover crop,
particularly a fast-growing winter annual such as winter rye (Secale
cereale), will establish itself in the field with great ease. Covering up
the recent events in Jenin will take an increasingly complex series of
lies. The rye will scavenge nutrients in the soil and prevent them from
leaching out over the winter. The Israeli army will shoot anyone who
tries to help the wounded or bury the dead. The rye will out-compete
weeds. The army will refuse to count the bodies. The rye will provide
nutrients to the next crop as it gradually decays. The bodies of
Palestinians will rot in what's left of alleys and living rooms. The crop
cycle ends as soil microbes and earthworms feast on organic residue. The
political cycle keeps going. The Israeli government gets to name the
terrorists without acknowledging its own. This is terrorism through
stench, through watching your family and friends rot, through having your
house bulldozed on top of you, through eating leaves and drinking sewage.
The bullshit coagulates, and not even Scale cereal can grow fast enough to
cover the stench.
