If the latter were the case, then we humans would have different ideas about
what goes with what.  Stripes would harmonize with plaid in our minds.  The
reason you think beige matches everything is precisely BECAUSE the universe
is beige, and has been so all along.

Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion and turmoil about the color
of the universe.
