In a promotional spot for Spineless Books, Billy Idol has come out of
retirement with a new image. He now goes by William Idol and has adopted a
sensitive aging intellectual rock star demeanor in the manner of Sting
circa 1990. His videos show him with glasses and sweater reading by
lamplight late at night, or singing to a serious-looking female grad
student. His songs about domesticity ("Black Divorce", "Dancing With
My Spouse") are subtle, and he has smoothed out what little political
edge his music once had ("With a Compliant Whisper She Suggested")...
He turns to the camera, removes his glasses, and thoughtfully recites the
following palindrome:
Pure... Eligible Babs: flesh self's eros revolts, rubs.
Babs, looted under Bob, seXes Bob. Red, nude tools. Babs:
"Burst, lover! Sores. Flesh self's Babel big. I leer up."
2002: A Palindrome Story in 2002 Words, by Nick Montfort & William
Gillespie, has just been published in a small (4 x 4) perfect-bound
paperback with vellum wraps, designed by Ingrid Ankerson (co-editor of
poemsthatgo.com), with inset vellum plates bearing five illustrations by
Shelley Jackson (author of The Melancholy of Anatomy). The book is
available online at http://spinelessbooks.com/2002/book.
Celebrate the last palindrome year of our lifetimes.
...And with a sneer he raises his fist, then turns back to his book and
continues to read, his cat purring contentedly in his lap...
