"Defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld, ... said that global support for 
President Bush's position that Iraq must comply with U.N. resolutions 
is stronger than it seems."

This statement made the support seem stronger.

Given that support is stronger than it seems, support grew stronger still.

So support that's stronger than it seems is stronger than the same 
support, if it were as strong as it seemed.  QED

Support for ousting George W. Bush is stronger than it seems ...
