The saga of Laura Bush's poetry symposium continues. Although the White
House gig has been cancelled, Sam Hamill is calling for Feb. 12 to be a
day of poetry against the war. Poets all over the country are encouraged
to stage public readings on that day of poetry related to the imminent
invasion of Iraq. Are any Champaign-Urbana poets, News or otherwise,
interested in doing something like this? If so, I can find out if the IMC
can provide a venue for us.

There is also a website now where antiwar poems can be submitted. I know
a few newspoets have already sent things in, but there's room for more.

From the Website:
"January 31, 2003. 4 A week ago Sam Hamill sent an open letter to a few
friends. Word has spread like wildfire from mailbox to mailbox, and to
date almost 3,000 poets have submitted poems or personal statements to
register their opposition to the Bush administration's headlong plunge
toward war in Iraq. In doing so, they have honored a long and rich
tradition of thoughtful and moral opposition by poets and other artists to
senseless and murderous policies, including those of our own government."
