Fiscal Year Bankruptcy Filings Hit Record in Run Up to New Law

October Bankruptcies Exceed 600,000, Compared with 130,679 in 2004

It comes as no surprise that FY 2005 recorded the highest number of bankruptcies ever filed. According to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, 1,782,643 bankruptcy cases were filed in federal courts during the 12-month period ending September 30, a 10 percent increase over 2004.
