[Newspoetry] Canute to Bush

King Canute got ill repute
for showing he was mortal.
His couriers over praised
his deeds just, his wisdom deep.

So, he, to reform their views,
stood upon the strands of shore
and bid the tides of waves back,
they came crashing, nonetheless.

He's nothing if not quite mad,
they whispered, hissing softly,
inverted their estimate,
and spread madness as his fame.

When Katrina swept away
the sea port of New Orleans,
King Bush bid the storm begone,
for he believed in good luck.

When the ravaged coast was clear,
Bush did suddenly appear
the fool that he'd always been,
prone to a disastrous fall.

The media which made him
the tower of our resolve,
found him distant from events,
more image than compassion.

It took them long to find truth
speaks without faking its charms
of being nice when he's mean,
and humble when he's quite vain.
