Living under a False Name:

British Detain a Nowhere Man

So, how does a zealous Beatles fan live falsely,

Choosing another name than he was given,

By ordinary patrimony and dumb parents,

Every birth name being a childish thing,

Given as if a parent has the power to name,

Has the right to name, a child.

Living under a false name.

False living under a name.

How could a name be false?

A name is just a nominality.

It has no meaning, really,

As long as we've a correspondence,

A regular reference to a singular referent

One that we all customarily accept.

Hollywood folks live under false names,

Fake addresses, and phony lives.

Writers, generally, have false names,

And even call them, artfully, pseudonyms,

As if the disguise of the naming works better

When it has something intellectual to it,

As multi-syllables are supposedly intellective.

Politicians in DC are false to all names,

To every name except those we all use

To describe them, as corrupt crooks,

As the lying four-flushing scoundrels,

As the criminal conspiracy they are.

The US President has a false name,

He's called, by some, George Bush,

but we know him by his handle, or handler,

Dick the Sharp-eyed Shooter Cheney -

And besides, the true President's name

Would be Al Gore or John Kerry,

Depending on the theft in question,

Of which election Bush stole.

What corporate business has a true name?

All of their names are falsehoods,

False fronts for hiding the owners,

And real rulers from the people,

suckers lured into dens of iniquity,

where they are fleeced and robbed,

dumped out on the streets and alleys,

impoverished by their large debts.

But, you, oh my fellow citizens,

You are forbidden to have false names --

You aren't important enough to have one,

Besides, Homeland Security would collapse

If all of you had a bunch of false names,

Aliases and alibis of the big naming lies.

The computers would not know who was who,

The police rap sheets would be too long,

And require some reading and thinking,

That, most likely, the police never do,

And computers never try to do.

Oh, you are forbidden to have another name,

It would indeed be an identity theft,

Taking your name from those who own it,

As a way of grabbing you from behind,

By the roots of your heir-ship,

And dragging you down by it.
